CCMC50 Common Mode Noise Filter
Noise filters are nothing new and are often used for transmitting purposes. They are used to prevent unwanted radiation via the coax shielding. It is less known that they can also suppress unwanted radiation when receiving signals, especially when an active antenna is used. However, in this case, the situation is reversed: en route to the antenna, unwanted interferences from electric home appliances can be effectively eliminated.
This Coaxial Common Mode Choke (CCMC50) has been especially optimized for maximum common mode noise rejection of >30dB wide band in the frequency range of 500kHz – 50MHz. With slight limitations a much wider frequency range is covered. This is possible by using a cascaded system of ferrite cores with various frequency dependent material properties, combined with high quality PTFE coaxial cable.

Message:
Hello Friedrichshafen, Ciao Ham Radio, QRZ friends and followers of Ciro Mazzoni Loop Antennas Verona.
Great, and thanks to the Messegesellschaft FHN, that we can still yet get into touch with you. In a different
way than we are used to and not a comparable real alternative to meeting you personally at our booth,
talking HF, having an exchange of experiences, hearing from your ideas, plans and proposals and asking you to have an espresso with you, by the way the best you can have in the Messehallen!!! ;-))
We survived with our company the COVID-19 Lockdown in Northern Italy, and are now rising like a Phoenix from the ashes. Apparently you didn’t forget us, as we never forgot you. Meanwhile I made my Ham Radio license in Venice and you can call me, Viviana Mazzoni, IU3NQA, if you meet me on SW. Nevertheless, my father Ciro I3VHF is still going strong and daily present in our family company.
We had some ideas, but were not able to realise them during the time life came to a standstill in the first
half of 2020, but this is a topic for 2021.
We proudly present our best-sellers, the well-known Baby Loop (covering the complete range from 6.6
MHz to 29.8 MHz), for the lower bands the huge Midi Loop (continuous range from 3.5 MHz to 14.5 MHz)
and for people who have to hide their antenna away from the attention of beloved and friendly neighbours
or home owners associations, our STEALTH LOOP ANTENNA with surprising effectiveness, contrary to what its outward appearance may suggest. Same range as the Baby Loop. And, because some owners of this Stealth Loop Antenna aren’t using it in covered, hidden or protected places, we tailored a dark, transparent and strong Stealth cap to be assembled on top of the capacitor. Raindrops or leaves have no more access and can’t have influence on the automatic tuning any more. This LOOP is really low to the ground floor and shrinks away as if seeking cover from curious eyes.

Message:
It has not been a year since we launched the DX-Plaza at HAM RADIO 2019: DX Foundations from 6 countries united in one area. We were excited about the prospect to repeat it this year - especially because the German DX Foundation (GDXF) and the CDXC - The UK DX Foundation would join us.

Unforgotten are the interesting meetings with old and new friends from all over the world. At any time, there was lots of activity on the Plaza. Short presentations loosened up the program and offered new topic for discussions.
We will not let current events distract us from our idea and are looking forward to the next meeting with friends at Lake Constance.

German Working Group Amateur Radio Television e.V. (AGAF)
Homepage: www.agaf-ev.org

Introduction of the association:
The German Working Group Amateur Radio Television e.V. (AGAF) has been working since 1968 to promote above all the picture transmission modes amateur TV, digital TV and slow-scan TV (SSTV) in the German-speaking countries. For this purpose, it has organized annual meetings with expert lectures, which is currently prevented by the Corona crisis. Likewise, the publication of the quarterly members' magazine "TV-AMATEUR" is currently not possible. The AGAF website, which was severely damaged by a hacker attack, is now accessible again: http://www.agaf-ev.org/

A groundbreaking process was initiated in 1995 by Prof. em. Dr.-Ing Uwe E. Kraus, DJ8DW, a long-standing member and member of the board of AGAF e.V., and his team at the University of Wuppertal with the development of an MPEG-II coder and 70-cm-DATV exciter. 100 coders and exciters each were later "produced" by AGAF members and delivered to German and international interested parties. This pioneering work on DATV enabled the world's first QPSK trial operation of a digital-ATV converter in 2001 with the prototype boards on the multimedia repeater DB0KO, which at that time was housed in the high-rise building of Deutsche Welle in Cologne. Since 1999, this modern TV technology has been demonstrated in amateur radio at the AGAF stand of HAMRADIO in Friedrichshafen every year with ever new variants. For example, every year from the Pfänder mountain above Bregenz/OE, in 2003 from the Zepplin and in 2004 from a ship on Lake Constance, and from mobile stations on land, was transmitted and then received at the AGAF stand. The Wuppertal university team received the Rudolf-Horkheimer-Prize of the DARC in 2002 in Friedrichshafen for the pioneering work on DATV.

In the meantime, there are many follow-up projects worldwide and, since the beginning of 2019, even a geostationary TV satellite with a connected digital ATV repeater (Quatar-OSCAR 100), developed by the German group AMSAT-DL. It, besides other signals, transmits digital amateur TV from Brazil to China and from South Africa to Sweden. These DVB-S2 signals are received by a ground station of the co-developers of the British Amateur Television Club (BATC) in South West England and the transponder spectrum is streamed live to the Internet with a chat window for the DATV transponder users: https://eshail.batc.org.uk/wb/

The DATV signals available on the satellite are also received at the German multimedia repeater DB0KO near Cologne (at the new Huerth location), but are automatically evaluated as image signals depending on the data rate and streamed in three windows of the nine-part converter output video to the Internet. They are made visible e.g. by means of the VLC player network stream output: http://www.db0ko.org/db0ko_internet.m3u

Police Amateur Radio Association YO3IPA
Homepage: https://yo3ipa.webs.com/

Introduction of the association:
"Police Amateur Radio Association - YO3IPA" appeared as the fruit of an enthusiastic group of ham radio operators desire to promote this hobby among the law enforcement communities.

As a role model we used similar associations, in particular DL0IPA, HG3IPA and ON4IPA, who supported from YO3IPA from the beginning, under the motto: "SERVO PER AMIKECO". (Translation from Esperanto language: Service through friendship!)

The QSO's made with the members of YO3IPA are taken in consideration as valid points for the diploma "Sherlock Holmes" issued by DL0IPA.

In 2020, we celebrate the 16 years since the establishment of our Association! We will run each year a special callsign in order to celebrate YO3IPA (ex. next year we will operate with YO17IPA). We will reward the stations that work with us, as a follows:

- working with one YO3IPA special callsigns like the ones mentioned before (ex. YO11IPA) will bring you a special QSL

- working with two consecutive and/or different YO3IPA special callsigns like the ones mentioned before (ex. YO11IPA, YO12IPA etc.) will be rewarded with an anniversary diploma

Rigol Introduces a New RF Generator Series
DSG800 Family Offers an IQ Option as new (A) Version

Rigol Technologies, a leading manufacturer of innovative Test and Measurement Equipment, introduces its new RF Signal Generator Series DSG800, which enhances Rigol’s presence in the RF Measurement domain. The new four sources are available with bandwidths of 2.1 GHz or 3.6 GHz and addresses customers in Wireless Communication, Radar Test, Audio/Video Broadcasting, Education and Consumer Electronics. The new sources also offer an IQ modulation as models DSG821(A) and DSG836(A).
The great standard specifications allow these new sources to be used off the shelf without any extra options in a wide range of different applications and offer extraordinary performance at a very attractive price. For example, the price of the actual model DSG 815 (1.5 GHz) is only €1880 net and includes superior specs like < 0.5 dB (typ) amplitude accuracy, +20 dBm maximum output power as well as great signal purity and low phase noise <-112 dBc/Hz@20 kHz. Further features are <2 ppm frequency stability and standard AM/FM/ΦM modulation with a frequency resolution of 0.01 Hz. There is an internal or external modulation capability on all modulation types. The devices have standard remote control interfaces USB and LAN and support SCPI control.
There are three options available to enhance the stability and the functionality of the signal generators. The highly stable Oven Oscillator (Option OCXO-A08) enhances the temperature stability of the internal clock from 2 ppm to 5 ppb. In addition the Pulse Train Generator option (PUG-DSG800) and the Pulse Modulation Option (PUM-DSG800) are available. The pulse options of the DSG800 allow to either output a pre- or self-defined pulse sequence or allow the output of pulse modulated signals.
The new models DSG821 and DSG821(A) as well as DSG836 and DSG836(A) are a perfect extension of Rigol’s existing RF Generator family and completes the company’s overall portfolio.
With their good basic configuration, great specifications and the high flexibility together with Rigol’s excellent price/performance ratio, the new generators are a very good alternative to sources currently available on the market in the same performance range.

RF-Test Solutions – Follow our Journey to higher Performance
From September 2019 on till today Siglent has released several new RF-test instruments or extended existing series. Here is a short summary of the last month’. In September 2019 the SVA1000X Series, a hybrid instrument combining Spectrum Analyzer and Vector Network Analyzer functionality in one instrument, got an upgrade in frequency from 1.5 GHz to 3.2 GHz. With this frequency extension, improvements in performance, like better DANL and more advanced measurements were implemented. The VNA functionality enables the user to conduct complex impedance matching, filter optimization or antenna development. At the same time Siglent released the SSA3000X Plus Series of Spectrum Analyzers. This series will be the successor of the very successful SSA3000X series. It is based on the same platform as the SVA1000X Series, but without VNA. This means that, beside the improved specifications, the X Plus series also offers Touch Screen operation, external mouse and keyboard support and include remote control over the internal webserver and more optional functions like Vector Signal Analysis. All together for only 160.-€ more compared to SSA3000X.

Swiss DX Foundation (SDXF)
Homepage: www.sdxf.ch

Message:
Corona changed all our lives. And our favourite pastime has been affected too: numerous DXpeditions had to be cancelled or at least postponed and it is to be expected that one or the other activity will turn out more expensive than planned. Especially in such times the support of the DX Foundations is even more important.

Let us make the best of the situation and take care of long overdue improvements at our stations. Let us activate the bands and stay in touch. Let us have a look at our QSLs again and maybe apply for one or the other diploma. And maybe we have a little more time than usual to read the reports from recent DXpeditions. Let us dream of  faraway places and let us become aware once again what efforts and strains these teams take on to help us to get a "new one".
Stay healthy, we will see you at Lake Constance in 2021 at the latest!
